In 2011, MTH hadn't released any new music, but all of a sudden, they released a video of a J-pop/J-happy emo reggae song. This is a genre that has gotten stupidly popular in Japan, and for a moment it looked like MTH had gone down the popular road.
Then they released the full version of the video, which you should see for yourself. MTH gives a pretty clear idea of their opinion towards this "mainstream" ideal.
They announced their first greatest hits album. For years 2011-2011. So yeah, it wasn't actually a greatest hits records, but new songs. Actually it was a single. And not just a single, but a triple A-side single. No B-sides, three songs all featured on the single. I bought the single, it was pretty awesome.
Not only was it packaged in the "Greatest Hits" sleeve, but the plastic case inside had three interchangeable front cover inserts for each of the three songs.
Appropriately for their "Greatest Hits", the first song on the single is self-titled: "maximum the hormone". It is in a sense a theme song for them. But it's not. It goes over a lot of basic info about the band, with some shout-outs to fans and their record label.
